I have followed most of the many reports of this issue but they mainly relate to a failed MS update that broke SharePoint and does not seem to be my issue. To resolve this issue, you should run "stsadm -o sync -deleteolddatabases n". Never know how much info to supply as in the past I've posted everything and then I get less interest as there is just too much to read.
Both Companyweb and the SharePoint Administration sites were offline.
