If you try to define a phrase as a keyword when it is already a synonym for another keyword, you will see an error message. Keyword definitions will take effect immediately. Checked the permissions and the web application account was in the relevant FAST Search groups, no issues there… Then decided to look closer at the FAST Search Server itself via IIS, check over here

The SDK has some guidance on this but I wanted to walk you through the troubleshooting steps I used to determine what the issue was and then how to fix it. Thanks for the help.
