If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. They could occur in the default configuration every 2 seconds during heavy internet use so this gives far more use than in a normal applet. From what you've explained, it seems appropriate for applets to be put in a separate process. I've also tried reinstalling cinnamon itself, but that does not seem to have had any effect. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=712245 I am in NZ on holiday at present but will try to have a look at the changes which have been suggested - any comments and improvements are always welcome.
Can you reproduce it? If anything is wrong with backtrace, please notify. That being said, I'm not very happy with the current method for displaying and rating applets, as there are a number of them that no longer work (or don't work well), Rusty Clarkson (flyingsolow) wrote on 2012-02-27: #8 I am still experiencing this issue( and reproduce it on an almost monthly basis).
